Tenant Overview

The nation’s #1 drugstore chain operates more than 8,000 mostly freestanding Walgreens stores are in all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Prescription drugs account for about two-thirds of sales; the rest comes from general merchandise, over-the-counter medications, cosmetics, and groceries. Most Walgreens stores offer drive-through pharmacies and one-hour photo processing.

In a strategic shift, Walgreen has become increasingly acquisitive. Over the years, Walgreens has purchased Drugstore.com in 2011, Happy Harry’s in 2006 and Farmacias El Amal in Puerto Rico. Having blanketed the US with its drugstores, ubiquitous Walgreen is now looking to Europe and fill-in acquisitions at home for growth.

In addition, the company operates Take Care Clinics to treat patients, give prescriptions, and administer immunizations and other vaccines. As of April 1, 2013, Walgreen Co. ( WAG) operated 8,057 drugstores in 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The company also operates approximately 700 worksite health and wellness centers, and in-store convenient care clinics in the United States. Walgreen Co. was founded in 1901 and is based in Deerfield, Illinois.
